Message from the President

Hello Parents,

I hope this finds everyone well in these ever-changing times. We finally got word last night about the upcoming hockey season. We have been given the green light to begin planning for the season. This will make many girls happy.

If you haven’t read through the latest update from OWHA that has been posted in our news articles, please do so to become familiar with what to expect from the season at this point. As you are all aware, things continue to change rapidly and often, so please be prepared to be flexible and open minded during this season.

A general outline for the season will be broken down into various segments. The first segment which we are currently focusing on will be for the first 4-6 weeks of the season. The main focus will be on getting the girls skating again and focusing on development.

As said earlier, there will be no try outs at this point in time. The players will be placed on various teams of similar skill level. During the first segment, the association plans on bringing in various outside development instructors for the girls to keep things interesting for them.

The registration fees will be set for the first segment only at this time. The fees will be based on the number of ice times, insurance, and number of development sessions. This fee will be shared in the coming weeks as the ice schedule gets finalized.

The second segment of the season, we will be looking at playing either 3 on 3 or 4 on 4, based on approval from OWHA. At this time there are only 50 players allowed in an extended group, so there will be 3 teams to a group to play. This will not be league play. At this time, there is no league play permitted.

Overall, we anticipate the season to be more about development than games, however, we will see how things unfold throughout the year.

As of now, we have opened registration. There is a new registration program that OWHA has set up for all associations. The initial registration requires you to set up player and family profiles, but it will make things much easier down the road.

If you want to be considered for the top team(s), please register as soon as possible. We will be selecting the teams very soon. Registration will remain opened, however, teams will be made as the numbers come in and permit, so don’t delay.

Please check out our COVID-19 tab on our website for various information about the season and how things will be done moving forward. It will not look like a typical season in many areas right now, but hopefully that will change.

We look forward to getting the girls back on the ice and having fun.

Sincerely,

Krista Wilson

President
