Welcome Athletes!
Good Day Athletes/ Parents,

Before we get started with tryouts, I want to take a moment to write to you directly — not just as a coach, but as someone who truly respects what building a team involves. Tryouts can be tough, and I know the pressure is real. Please take some time to read the message that follows.

First off, welcome. Whether this is your first tryout or your last, I want you to know how much I respect the time, effort, and heart it takes just to show up here. You’ve already taken the first step, and that matters.

As a coach, I want to make one thing very clear from the start — I promise to give every single one of you a fair, honest shot. It doesn’t matter what team you played on last season, what your name is, or who you know. What matters to me is who you are when you step on the ice, how you compete, how you respond to challenges, and how you treat the people around you.

I’m not just evaluating skill. I’m looking for character.

I’m building a culture — one where hard work, accountability, and respect matter just as much as goals and assists.

This process isn’t always easy. You’re going to be pushed, you’re going to be uncomfortable at times, and that’s okay. That’s how growth happens. My promise to you is that I’ll be honest, transparent, and respectful — and I expect the same from each of you.

So bring your energy. Compete with pride. Support your teammates. Be coachable. Show me who you are — not just as a hockey player, but as a person. Let’s make this a tryout to be proud of.

Good luck to all of you.

Coach Zehr
